3rd week - 1st Day Uniform

First day with the uniform, - are they a girl band? ...No.  Are they from a sect? No... -They are from MESSSDexperiment!!! Yes....
So,  this was the first day with the uniform - people were starring at us in the streets. But we felt quite teamed up in our uniforms, - they gave us a feeling of being united.
The 3 days wearing uniforms have been important. Its been tough excluding all your wardrobe. -No choice of  what colors or shapes suits the day. It can make you miss your individuality that you expressing via your appearence.
On the other side, its a new feeling walking around in something you wouldn't normally wear, feeling a bit uncomfortable  but yet still okay because we were together and looked the same.

Seven outfits in one day.

So this was the next part of our research, after wearing the same outfit for seven days we then wore seven outfits in one day. It was actually quite fun, but pretty exhausting getting changed all the time! I think it gives a good insight into each of us individually, what clothes we wear and how we wear them.  Hugs and kisses to Elisabet for being such a clever little photographer.

NO MORE DIRTY CLOTHES!

Yay! So the seven day outfit challenge is over and it was so good to pick out something new to wear on friday, i haven't felt that excited about getting dressed in my life! I don't know what it proved to be honest, i liked the idea of having my own personal uniform, it made getting dressed each morning so much easier, but by the end of the week everything was dirty and grimey and i felt really mucky and awful. It proved to be quite difficult picking an outfit that would carry you through all sorts of situations and if i was to do it again i know i would pick my clothes a lot more carefully. Drew.

7th day

although my clothes are clean as i have washed them, it still feels strange to be wearing the same fabric. I have really got into wearing the same outfit however, as it makes getting ready in the morning easier, and i really like the outfit i chose so i feel good in it. Im not sure how i will react when i can wear what i want.

6th Day

Drew
I like my outfit today, i think its suitable to the weather, even though I'm wearing black and its quite hot! I haven't customised anything, besides rolling the sleeves up on my shirt. I don't feel the need to change anything, I'm quite comfortable today.

Sara

These pictures are of me at Madame Tussauds, i felt ok but it was really warm and i was totally over the dress and needed some new clothes! I also felt totally underdressed next to Britney!

Dead White Mans Clothes

Don't understand much -..but it sounds really cool..

How Self-Cleaning Fabric Works

The self-cleaning fabrics work using the photocatalytic properties of titanium dioxide, a compound used in many new nanotechnology solar cell applications.

The fabric is coated with a thin layer of titanium dioxide particles that measure only 20 nanometers in diameter. When this semi-conductive layer is exposed to light, photons with energy equal to or greater than the band gap of the titanium dioxide excite electrons up to the conduction band. The excited electrons within the crystal structure react with oxygen atoms in the air, creating free-radical oxygen. These oxygen atoms are powerful oxidizing agents, which can break down most carbon-based compounds through oxidation-reduction reactions. In these reactions, the organic compounds (i.e. dirt, pollutants, and micro organisms) are broken down into substances such as carbon dioxide and water. Since the titanium dioxide only acts as a catalyst to the reactions, it is never used up. This allows the coating to continue breaking down stains over and over.

5th Day

Today i felt so dirty, i had not been able to clean my clothes and it was a really hot day. i felt uncomfortable and scruffy! i went home and washed my clothes and washed myself. I want to put new pieces on as i can sometimes be bored of my outfit, but, i am getting into having one set outfit, as i feel it is easier to not have to choose, or worry about choosing a look everyday. i am starting to think about what is in my wardrobe and how i can live more like this in the future. Max.

Self-Cleaning Materials: Lotus Leaf-Inspired Nanotechnology

The lotus plant's magnificent ability to repel dirt has inspired a range of self-cleaning and antibacterial technologies that may also help control microfluidic "lab-on-a-chip" devices

5th DaY: Uniforms are being made. Very exciting!

5th Day

Sassi: Today, I could kill my outfit. Its way too warm and tight to wear in 25 degrees. Had to change in the toilet. Its dirty, slightly smelly and StiILL no good for biking.
NOT appropriate - because of weather circumstances.
If I could change something, my bodystocking should be able to go from tight to loose.
No tights today.

4th Day

Sassi´s invoice of her wardrobe.

Owner of 148 pieces of clothing!! 14 pair of shoes.. I came to London in September 08 with 4 pairs!! its ridiculous ... and then just wait until you see my attic in Copenhagen, where there is at least 8 times as much. Im ashamed. Sassi.

I went to Brick Lane with my daughter today, had a really good time and wasn´t too bothered about my outfit. I felt comfortable, didn´t customise my outfit at all, just kept it simple.

3rd DaY

Today I feel presentable but also a bit too dressed up for going to the dentist, my lace leggins are making me feel uncomfortable lying in that horrible chair having my wisdom toth pulled out. - I just wanna be wearing slacky clothes.
If I could change one thing about todays outfit, it would have been a skirt that could have been pulled down. I've left my bodystocking out, too god damn hot in the tube.

Day 3

Today I was very uncomfortable in my outfit. I had to help a friend organise a hawaiian themed party and my outfit was quite inappropriate. It was really sunny and we were outside all day. Everyone else was wearing colourful dresses and bikinis and in my monochrome trousers and top I felt really out of place. I wished I could have worn something cooler and more loose fitting so the that I wasn't so hot and something more colourful so it looked like I was embracing the theme a little more.

2nd Day

How do you feel about your outfit today:
Max: I feel good in this outfit as i have chosen a variable look. the suit can be dressed up and dressed down with or without the jacket. it is fairly comfortable, and layers can be removed to become cooler. id like to have a nicer vest as i sometimes feel it is a bit too revealing or scruffy without the jacket over! today i left my leather jacket at home as it was too warm to wear it.

1ST dAY

Sarah Bess:
Im really happy with my outfit choice today, I feel very comfortable in the clothes I'm wearing although I'm starting to worry there is  no way of making it look smarter.
The outfit has been totally appropriate with todays activities - college, flat viewings, pub, park.
I wouldnt change anything today.
I wore everything today, vest, t-shirt, wrap + jacket at the same time.

1st Day

How do you feel about your outfit today?
Drew:I feel ok, but i think i could have layered a bit more. I haven't given myself many options, and im wearing wool and its boiling!
Sassi: Quite good, its kind of reflecting my mood for the day. Think I can't go wrong with black and white and I have lace or stripes to pick between.
How appropriate has the outfit been?
Drew: I think quite appropriate, although its hot and im wearing a vest that i dont feel comfortable in on its own.
Sassi: Allright for school, lace leggins and skirt not the best for biking though.
If you could change one thing what would it have been?
Drew: I would have worn a lighter blazer instead of a wool jacket.
Sassi: Sweat transpirance holes in my bodystocking!... too hot..
How have you adapted your outfit today?
Drew: I haven't.
Sas: like normal.. everything is on.

We've been given a project called "Turning point" - which is about our vision of the 21st Century and our future.

Six Central st. Martins fashion students, all with a highly individual style, asks themselves and any other fashionsuckers if we really need all this clothing?
-We already know the answer and you do as well.. the answer is No, non, nej, nei ..
But to actually wear the same outfit for 7 days, how does that make you feel? What outfit would you pick, and why?
And then to wear 7 outfits for 1 day, how extremely annoying is this gonna be?
Then, to finish off with, wearing a plain uniform for a week.

The intention of this MESSSDup project is to question this "consumer hunger" people seem to have evolved nowadays, which is screwing up the environment and our much beloved planet. We are questioning our mentality of expressing our self better in a lot of difference ways (saying; in average a person has around 200 pieces of clothing) instead of just having your own "uniform", designed exactly after your personnel needs. A uniform/outfit that you can wear for a weeks, months ...it might even be selfcleaning!

how cool would this be...
...hereby were the MESSSDexperiment born.
